What knife blade material is best for keeping a sharp edge?

Totally dependent on how you’re using the blade. Google is your friend, do a few quick searches on it. Personally for me and my EDC knives , I won’t purchase anything below s30v... my current flavor is s90v.

if your talking about holding a edge, it depends on how you use the knife and if you have a good sharpener setup with diamond stones if necessary.  I really like S110v and M4, holds an edge for a longtime but is harder to sharpen properly from what I hear.  I have not had to sharpen my S110v or M4's yet.

I agree - M4 for really holding an edge but it's a pain to get a mirror polished razor sharp edge on it. Once you do it'll hold it for a long time (depending on what you're cutting of course). S30V, S90V and S110V are easier to sharpen but don't hold an edge as long. For sharpening I use my WickedEdge Gen 4 Pro but if I'm in a hurry and don't wish to set everything up then the Spyderco SharpMaker or the Spyderco large ceramic stones work a treat (followed by a good stropping).

One of these days I’m going to buy a good setup like a wicked edge!
