Has anyone here tried their hand at making a knife? I've always wanted to try it just to be able to say "I made my knife" & I like making things and working with my hands. I know that there are places that will sell kits that you draw out the knife and then cut it & whatnot, has anyone tried any of these? I'd love to try my hand at it with a Damascus billet and I have a friend that makes leather that I can get material from for a sheath or maybe try my hand with kydex.
Any advice is appreciated.

I tried my hand at making one from a slab of 01 tool steel, a file, and a whole lot of elbow grease. Didn't turn out too well but I learned a lot in the process and hope to try Again soon. Congratulations on your new knife and I hope you encourage more people to practice the skill!

Check out Ragweedforge.com for a ton of knife blades and knife making parts. It’s a lot easier to start with a $15 blank and screw it up than to buy a hundred doally Damascus billet and then screw it up, says the guy who ruined the blade of the first knife he made.
