Hi all! I have a question... I have old style leatherman wave. The one without locking tools. I had this guy for a long time and used and abused it and it still works great. Save the locking tools... should I retire this one and upgrade to new wave or charge? Non locking tools = mashed up fingers and makes it very frustrating fixing things. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Well, I'm not one to spend someone else money, but I will say that having more than one multitool is a good idea. I have 5 Leatherman tools myself, and keep them in different places. One in the truck, the Jeep, my EDC bag, my boat, and one that comes with me on body when I'm working around the home or property. If it's not a financial stretch, A new upgraded tool would be great to have at hand, and maybe move the other to your vehicle. The ones I keep in my vehicleshave saved my rump many, many times.

Whichever tool you get don't waste your money on the bit extender or flat bits. Probably durable enough but the bits are very short and can't reach down into a hole where a screw is sometimes.

I hear there are some multitools with 1/4 inch bit holders.

I bought a Leatherman Wave 2 about 2 years ago. So disappointing. Had to oil the tools so many times and was finally able to use the Wave 2 for EDC just this February. Maybe I got a lemon. Open the package in the store and check it out carefully.

Now I'm gotta check out my Wave 2 just to make sure the small tools can still be opened. I still have to keep oiling it.
