Just had to share this here. This knife is so amazing I can't stop staring at it. The titanium handle is almost chameleon from blue to violet depending on the lighting. And look at that Damasteel blade! It is seriously one of the nicest knives I have ever personally held in my hand and you will definitely feel the same way if you ever get your hands on one. If this is your EDC knife you are a boss!

Beautiful knife. I don't think I could EDC a knife that expensive though.

Gold class is overrated.
It's straight up safe Queen type blades..
Knives are meant to be used...

Actually, the blade on the 485-171 Valet is Benchmade's Damasteel which has their highest toughness rating and is their third strongest blade steel they offer. Above that of their CPM-S30V and CPM-S90V which are their standards for most of their blue class knives.

Haha well I would not blame you for not EDC'ing a $700 knife.

For 700$ it better be one of their best rated in terms of hardness. That's not why I called it overrated, or the gold class itself. More to the fact that it's snotty collector types that drop stupid amounts of coin after knives like this.
If I remember correctly gold class is considered their collector tier. According to Benchmade themselves, which in of itself tells me nope. Highly avoidable.
700 on a knife, is absurd. Much rather have a case and a half of 5.56 ammo...

Also Damascus is too pretty to use in an edc blade. It'd be too nice to ruin with EDC.

I think the BM Anthem looks really nice. I would use that for EDC if I could justify the cost of that one.

Totally understandable. And I would probably feel bad getting adhesive all over that damascus blade from packing tape. I agree that it really is mostly for the collector type but Benchmade is pretty adamant about the fact that the knife was made for use and abuse. We could always go halves on that case of 5.56 maybe? haha

Just curious, What is the strongest blade steel they offer?

Hey so the two ratings of we would be looking at would be Strength and Toughness. Strength = Maximum stress withstood before a blade breaks or fails and Toughness = Resistance of a blade to fracture and chipping.  The Damasteel 58-60 which the 485-171 Valet has, has the highest rating in Toughness  and their third highest rating in Strength. Their 1095 55-58 high carbon steel has their highest Strength rating and second highest Toughness rating. (It is the strongest steel they offer but sacrifices edge retention and corrosion resistance in order to do so) The CPM-M4 is second in Strength but ties for third in Toughness. However, it offers extremely good edge retention.   Those are the three strongest blade materials they offer and as you can see, the balance of Strength and Toughness is a deciding factor of overall strength. For the all around quality of Edge, Strength, Corrosion Resistance and Toughness, the CPM-S90V and the M390 Super Steel are the best options.

Looks really nice! Must say that the price is too deep for me thought. Can't justify to myself spending that much on an EDC knife

Well Garth, just because I have a couple for sale doesn't mean I can afford it either! Although, I will be a little sad when they are sold. Right now I get to look at them all day!

I'm not so sure an expensive knife is not a suitable EDC knife. Each person has their own budget. When I buy a knife I select it for the knife itself - the price is not taken into consideration. If I ruin it - I can always buy another one. To each his own...

I can agree with that. Some people have the means to carry a Nighthawk for their CCW. All depends on your budget and what you need or want out of your EDC.

1st of all it's like $550 , 2nd if you have it forvever who cares, I spent $300 on a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses and have had them for 15 years, that worse than buying a $20 pair every year? My EDC is a Spyderco Rookie I've had for 15 years, this is a nice knife and bashin it on price alone is a dumb argument if someone can afford it and it gives the pleasure. I have a $30 smartphone but some people have one that does mosty the same stuff for $300, or $500, or more.

And last, my go to deer gutting knife is damascus and appreciate every second of enjoying that moment when my hunt is complete, I have a few months of meat in the freezer, and I'm admiring the gorgeous knife I'm using to butcher that hard-earned food.

Get that gorgeous damascus knife and ptooey on anyone that bashes you for it!
