I am planning to buy my first serious watch in the the next few months. I love the the Seiko SKX007, especially on a NATO strap. Does anyone have one? Also I am a little drawn to the Seiko Sea Urchin. It has a more traditional look of a Submariner. Anyone have any advice on either being a better choice? Thanks.

I have both an SKX009 and an SKX173. Both have the same movement and specs as the 007 but just differ in aesthetics. They are very good quality watches and great at taking a wide variety of strap and bracelet types. If you really like the 007, take a look at the 173 which as rectangular indices rather than round ones. Have you also looked at the Monsters? Those are really good ones too. You would be very happy with any of those Seikos.

I do like the look of the 173, it is a touch more classy with the rectangular indices. Thanks for the advice. Now the hard part, making a decision.

I always wanted a SKX007, I simply love the round indices and classic looks.

I don't think I'm ready for automatic watches just yet, I'm sure it will keep running out of power and I prefer something ready to go.

I thought about a SKA371 Kinetic, but they just don't look as good as the 007.

I hope you've bought it!

I have a 007 on a Miltat super oyster bracelet, it is my preferred every day watch. If you purchase one you won't be sorry.

Yeah I have settled on the skx007. I can't wait to pick one up.

I should also mention they are indestructible - a great watch that will last for decades.

I'm currently torn between the skx 007, 173, or just spending the extra 100 and getting the srp777 as my first dive watch

Depends on your wrist size or if you really need a hand-wind and hacking.  SRP77 is considerably much bigger than the SKX007 but it does have hand-wind and is hackable.

I have an original orange monster I bought decades ago that looks  like that. It's been worn so much that the back is nearly smooth now. I think I wore that watch every day for 20 years.
