Hi all

What's your hunting carry?

What do you carry in the field, in addition to the requisite firearm / bow / etc.?

And for context, how do you prefer to hunt (camping, day trip, safari, etc.), and what's your preferred game?

I don't personally have a complete hunting carry to share, as I'm very much a hunting newbie, but I'd love to hear what you all have to say :) .

That said, here's a gratuitous shot of my bird hunting and trap league shotgun, a Baretta 686 Silver Pidgeon I...

I'm looking to get a Remington 700 soon in .308 for deer hunting. So my hunting carry would be that, my Kimber 1911 on my side, and a small pack with extra ammo, water, and small FAK, knife, etc...

John, in regards to your desire for a Remington 700, make sure you get one with an older trigger group. The newest 700s all have terrible triggers.. Something about quality control slipping...

This season i'll be hunting with a Ruger Gunsite Scout in .308, and i'll have either my XD40 or M&P 9 Shield. My brother will be carrying whichever one I don't. Most likely in a Hill People Gear Kit Bag

Cool, chorpie, I have a Ruger Scout in .308 as well  :D  I haven't been able to get out in the woods with it yet.  Do you have yours set up as a Scout like I do, or have you gone the traditional scope placement route?

I'm interested to hear how it works for you, if you encounter any issues or nit-picks, reliability issues, etc.

I have a forward mounted scope. I can ding the 400 yard silhouette @ 2.5x without issues. I think I'll be good to go. I've got a $50 NCStar 2.5 EER scope. Haven't had any issues over 500 rounds although everyone will have you believe you need a Leupold. If it breaks... well there are the irons! :)

I dig it so far, so much in face that i've been trying to sell my Weatherby Vanguard in .270 because it's far too long and doesn't have iron sights.  I'm also digging the short rifles lately. At least as short as California will allow me to have.

Back on track, my favorite game is waterfowl hunting.  But when I am in the woods, for whatever reason, I always carry a Browning BDM 9.  There are wild dogs in my area, and if I get chased up a tree....

I prefer backwoods day or two trip. I will put my gear in the back of my Honda 700 Pioneer then hike the remaining two to three miles. I have a 3 day backpack with a couple of mre's,water, inclement weather gear and overnight gear if needed. A Garmin Rino 110 Gps/radio, a Leica 10x42 Geovid HD-B binocular. I have a Grape solar cooler back on the Pioneer. My hunting firearm is either a Marlin 444 with a Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5x32 scope or a Henry 45-70 with the same scope. My carry firearm is my HiPoint JHP 45 with Underwood +P 255 gr semi-wadcutter.
